Death Certificates

also remember that much of the information on the death certificate is only that which is known to the informant!!!


Only the date of death, cause of death, name of doctor if one given, current address, and name of informant can be taken as accurate

This applies whether the informant is spouse, child, neighbour, or other.

A parent will probably know the correct details for a child


........ but otherwise, age, name etc etc can be worng.

A married woman will be shown with her married suname and generally noted as ..wife of xxx ..or widow of xxx
Her maiden name won't be shown or date of birth, age will be shown on the certificate, but not on the index in early years.

Maiden name and date of birth have only been routinely added in England since 1969

Can some one tell me what info is given on death certificate from 1837 to 1870 approx is the date of birth or maiden name given
