Thank you Choirman for your suggestions. I'd had a PM overnight from someone who I thought was you, but I see today you have signed yourself Dave. Once again thanks

HI David, thank you very much for giving me your time.
I was afraid that would be the case about needing the surname.
I have taken your advice and will be contacting the Maritime Museum this weekend.
I really must spend a little time and fathom out the workings of the National Archives. Once again thanks for your help. J.J.

I tried a search at National Archives but the record is under seaman's name, not the ship.

This address is for the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich. You can email them to see if they have the ship's crew records, and they may be able to advise you on passenger lists. Otherwise place a query on the records office board for anyone who has expertise in this field. (I'm not!)

Hi Choirman,
Thanks for your suggestion. I have tried Nat. Archives but cant navigate the site due to lack of experience.
My problem is i dont have a full name for the person I am looking for. I just know his name is David and he was 2nd engineer or mate aboard the ship SURAT on that trip in Nov 1957.
I am hoping if the crew/officers list can be found I would recognise the name when I saw it.
Do you think I have a chance of finding it without a full name.??
Thanks again, sorry about the delay in answering, its due to the time difference in Australia. Jean.

Choirman many thanks for both your suggestions, but still can't find my ship, Prinz Heinrich, Southampton to Singapore April 1908. If you are feeling benevolent, would you help me to find the passenger and crew list. Although I won't claim to be a newbie, I am still finding my way around sites, and greatly appreciate any help I get.
Many,many thanks

Hi Elizabeth, success, I found the picture of the Surat, thanks for that.
I still cant find the crew + officers listing for this ship. S.S.Surat which arrived back in London from Hong Kong/Singapore in Nov 1957.
The shipping line was P+O Steam navigation company.
Any more clues folks? Thanks again .. Jean

Elizabeth, Teds Girl, Julia, Choirman.
Thank you all very much.
I tried the google and didnt find a photo or very much at all. I must try again with different wording.
Julia, I got the passengers list from Ancestry .. but they dont have crew lists as far as I can see.
Happy hunting .....

Ozzie Bird - you did well to get a passenger list. Please tell me how you did that, as I am looking for a passenger list for a different ship, also a crew list
Best regards

Have you tried Googling P&O Offices , London, or Southampton?

If you google the name of the ship there is a picture of it in the London dock in 1955-did you see it?!

Hi,
tips please how to find the list of Officer crew for the S.S. Surat, which was a P+O line intermediate ship. The year I am looking for was 1957 when it left Southampton Aug 57 to go to Hong Kong. I have managed to find the passengers list but Its the Officers and crew I need.
The ship arrived back in London in Nov 1957.
Any suggestions appreciated, Thank you,.. Ozzie.
