I just receved an e-mail regarding copies of certificates I need from GRO in Ireland.

They say to download the application form attached, however the application form is in paint format and it wont download. A message comes up saying I dont have a program associated with it for performing this action. Says I should create an association in the set associaltions control panel. How do I do this can anyone tell me I am on Windows Vista.

you may require an adobe reader to download it !!

Hi Adam,

I have adobe reader I think, well a viewer anyway. I have to complete an application form too don't know how I can do that as Adobe is just a viewer, you can't type in information on a form or change anything with it if its just a reader.

Hi Betty

Long time no speak!

I was using Paint only a couple of weeks ago, I did have problems but opening the file wasn't one of them. You could email it to me, if I can open it maybe I can copy and paste it back to you?

Hi Duncan,

I had this problem before with this Irish groireland, I sent them an e-mail saying I couldn't open the attachment which was the actual application form to search the births.

Can you pm me your e-mail address, not sure if I still have it!! I will sent the whole e-mail to you, still can't understand why I can't open the attachment form so I complete them and send them back.

Added Later I have sent the e-mail to you Duncan.

Hi Betty,

When you had this problem before, it's because the documents are word.

You need the word viewer.

The link I gave you before doesn't work with vista but this one does.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3657ce88-7cfa-457a-9aec-f4f827f20cac&DisplayLang=en

You will have to download it and then install it on your computer.

Going offline now but hope it works for you.

I tried and failed!

I didn't see any mention of Paint, I could download the file with no problem, but couldn't open it. The file is a .doc file.

Maybe somebody else has an idea?

A .doc file is a word file.

If you don't wish to purchase Word then try Open Office from Sun Systems. It is free to download.

I don't use it myself but I have it on good authority that it is ok.

Open Office will open them but is quite a large programme to download.

You only need the word viewer to be able to open them which is free, you don't have to purchase word if you only need it to view documents.
