I'm having real problems finding two people.

My Great Grandad and Great Grandmother.

On my Grandfathers birth certificate, Dick Glew, my G-Grandads name is Harry Glew and G-Grandmothers name is Isabella Davidson and the birth is registered in Ripon, St Marys Gate, Yorkshire.

I scoured the BMD to even find the record of Dicks birth as it wasn't transcribed before. I then looked at my Grandfathers Marriage Certificate that named my Great Grandad as Arthur Henry Glew... I know that Harry is the same as Henry but my problem is that i cannot find a trace of him or his wife Isabella Glew in any census or BMD record... I'd love any help on this. Any research ideaswould be great!

Many thanks and i hope that isn't too confusing to read.

People, I know it's frustrating but sometimes you need to understand that people can't always be at their PC's when they start a thread asking for help.

Maybe he's gone to work and will check back later?

CLW2005 Report 19 Nov 2008 10:20

yes - we understand that -
but his request was logged at 08.29
and the first response was 08.31

Why post a request - then immediately shut down your computer!

As said a lot of times. I don't think people realise how quick a response they can get to their query

Sorry everyone, i work for the Home Office and can't be logged on to personal sites at all times during the day. Mornings for a few minutes, the same for afternoons and a little bit in the evening.

Dick Glew was a Fitters Mate born in Dec 1902 in Ripon, Yorkshire. Married a Mary Ann Francis in Kent. His Father listed as Arthur Henry Glew on the marriage certificate his occupation was Foreman for the Gravesend Corporation. The marriage was registered in 1929 so he would have to have died some time after that (obviously) Maybe my computer is playing up when i look up people on BMD. I spent most of last night pouring over every page of the 1901 census for Ripon but the handwritting is TERRIBLE.

So sorry for the delay, i'll be back on tonight, please help me even with my short commings, i am sorry!

His father may have died before Dick's marriage. Don't rely on them adding "deceased" to the father's occupation on the marriage cert. My mother did not put "deceased" for her father when she married and he had been dead for nearly 20 years by then!

By the way - Gravesend parish records are searchable on Medway's site - Cityark. Especially useful for marriages as it saves you £7 per cert plus you get to see their signatures.
