thanks to all.

Ozi i will try not limiting so much. i did have a go at just the town where they were born and surname but with a name like Rogers you can imagine how many i got! Good tip though, thank you.

thanks again Glitter Baby, oh well i guess just move onto another branch for a while then come back to them in a few months. i find that sometimes helps to clear the muddle.

as you say it may all come together later on. thanks again,

Leanne, sometimes those names (like Reynard/Rayner/Rainer) can go back generations. His grandparents may be Reynard or his great-grandparents. It'll come together one day.

Reading your posts, I suggest that you don't restrict your searches as much as you do. When searching I usually put in the surname, dob +/- 5 years & area, sometimes only county. It's amazing what you pick up. Also try first name, dob +/- & pob.

Anyway, just a tip.

Ozi.

The only thought I have now on this - not as mad as it seems - but just wondering if the children were on the original household slips but got missed when the information was transferred to what we see now.

Really strange not to find one of them in 1871

yes it certainly looks like uckfield to me. that could certainly be him. though it does seem an odd middle name. i have never come across it before. i thought perhaps it might be their mothers maiden name but i have since found it to be weaver.

ohh yes. when you say rainer outloud it could easily be spelt raynor on a cenus. hmm thank you i will have a look at that one. i have tried entering all the childrens names and i have also tried them as card incase they decided to take on their step-fathers name.

thank GB i will have a look at it.

I keep looking at this entry

Deaths Dec 1863 (98%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rogers James Rainer Cuckfield 2b 63

Image looks like Uckfield

Problem is that it is before ages were added to the index so it could be any of the James Rogers on 1861 census

hi all,

thanks for the replies and once again sorry i disappeared for a while. that's great thank you both very much. that's why i couldn't find them then. for some unknown reason i hadn't looked for them using thomas, only John.

Rutland Belle, thank you for finding that marriage for me- i'm really sorry i actually already have the marriage i think it is her and have found her in the 1881 census with frederick frost and children Albert and George.i'm so sorry i sould have said i had that.

John E married Sarah Fermer in 1874 and had children Thomas,Alice,Frances and William.

sorry i should have said. but James and sarah are a complete mystery and i still can't find any of them on the '71. Thank you again for the info and i'm sorry i didn't say i had the marriage details for john and frances.

thank you,

Hi all i wonder if any of you wonderful people could help me out with my Rogers family.

I have them in the 1861 census (although at the moment i can't login to ancestry to get at it) and i know that the father Thomas died in Uckfield in 1864 and his wife Mary Ann remarried in a 1866 to a James Card.I have found her in the 1871.

It is the children i cannot find. I am particularly looking for:

John Edward Rogers born 1850 in Rotherfield, Sussex
Sarah Ann Rogers born 1852 in Rotherfield
Frances Flora Rogers born 1854 in Rotherfield
James "Reynard" Rogers born 1858 in Rotherfield Sussex (although i cannot find a birth record for James)

In 1861 their parents are Thomas Rogers born 1825 Rotherfield and Mary Ann born 1819ish in Waldron,Sussex. Thomas and Mary Ann should also appear in 1851 with son John but i cannot seem to find them. If anyone could find either Thomas,Mary and John in 1851 or any of these children i would be extremely grateful.

Thanks for reading,
