Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 19 Nov 2008 23:40

can i just add my experience on this.I was looking for my maternal grt grandparents. found them on the 1881 census with grandad as a 4 year old. not on the 1891 or 1901 altho found grandfathers first marriage in 1898. his cert named his dad with his occupation so assumed he was still alive. Grandads first wife died in 1905 and he married my nan in 1909.
Their marriage cert named his dad again with occupation but now as deceased so i naturally looked for a death between 1898 and 1909 ,even bought a couple of certs within the same area and of the same approx age. all wrong!!
A later update of Freebmd found his wife apparently marrying in 1896!! and a search then found the grt grandfather had died in 1884 aged 37 from TB.So its how the question was asked when a marriage was being arranged whether the dad is put down as deceased or not.

i'm just starting me tree - managed to get to nearly 100 but now i'm confused. i have got a copy of marriage cert which shows a husbands dad. question - would they show the dad's name and occupation on marriage cert if he was dead? silly question, but there is a tree this could fit into but if that is correct husbands dad died before he got married - does this make sense to anyone? can anyone tell me the answer?
thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings and thanks for any answers i get.
