Take all the information and go to GRO.gov.uk find births ...order on line
You need a credit card, and fill in what you know , leave out parents and tick yes for have you got the reference .number.
It takes about a week to come by post.

8e is the Volume number....828 is the Page number

Those are the GRO references.............

If you order on line from the GRO, you will be asked to fill them in on the application.............you will also see the question 'are GRO refs known?' Make sure to 'check' the box..............the cert will cost £7.00

Site address......www.gro.gov.uk

And, yes, the mother's maiden name is on all birth certs.............

After some fantastic help from people on here I have found my fathers family as far back as my great grandparents.I am trying to find te Maiden name of my ggm so I can search for a marriage record.I have found their names, joseph lambe born c1858(ireland)
and Jane lambe c1860 (dumbarton dumbartonshire scotland)
I have found the birth entry for thei son(my gf) Johnston miller lamb born Dec 1886 in barrow in furness(although this puts him several years older than the age on his marriage cert and than age at death??) the info i got was his name place of birth and the numbers 8E 828.how do use these to get a copy of his birth cert and will this give me his mothers maiden name?
