Can anyone please give me some tips on tracing family members with the surname Brown! I am totally lost and really want to do this section of my tree and cant fathom how to determine the right people I find!

I am up to William Brown, born c1872 in Thirkleby, Yorks. He married rose Mary Beecroft, born c1872 Easingwold, on the 25/11/1899 in Easingwold, Yorks. Her father was not named on the cert but her sister Ada Beecroft was a witness. Rose's mother is called Sarah. Williams father was also called William and he was a farm labourer. I know that Rose and her husband William both died in Middlesbrough in 1934 and 1953 respectively.

Any help to moved forward would be appreciated.Thank you.
Marie

Thirkleby comes under Thirsk district -
would think these two are your most likely suspects

The church was All saints at Great Thirkleby.Unfortunately the IGI coverage stops before he was baptised.
The records are held at the North Yorkshire records office in Northallerton. They should be able to find his baptism, but that will only give you his fathers name which you already know

You would be better to order the first birth certificate quoted above, using the fathers name as a checking point

In 1871 there is only one family called Brown living in Thirkleby

Thomas a widower, farm lab b c 1815 in Thirkleby with two sons Frederick 11 and Thomas 8, there is an Emma Brown 12, living with another family in the village as a servant.

I wonder if this Thomas may be the father of your older William.

Ancestry have the parish records for Easingwold 1813 to 1837.

Unfortunately I can't see anything for Thirkleby.

This could be the baptism for the older William, which would tie in with that census

Thank you for all this help.
I would think that Rose and William Brown were still in Easingwold in 1901. Their son Harry was born there in 1892. They all went to Middlesbrough though at some point as that is were Harry married and his parents both died. Rose's mother Sarah was born c1855. I assume she was married before as she is down as Beecroft Smith on 1881 with her husband Richard and their child Emily. It shows Rose and brother and sister, John born c1878 and Ada born c1879.
I seem to be having difficulty finding them all on anything else!
