Hello Everyone,
Can anyone help me. My great uncle died during the first world war. I know the date he died and have the death cert but it only gives death as 'On War Service' He was on a ship named Zaria and I know the ship was not destroyed and carried on after the war.
My great uncle was Christopher Jeakins but he is listed as Christopher Jenkins on his death certificate. He died on 22 Sep 1917 aboard the ship. I have tried the Hull Archives as he came from Hull and is buried there in the local cemetery. They have no information as to what he died from.
Any help would be appreicated.
Thanks Linda

I found this by googling his name. He died of illness.

I don't know if you have this but this is the War Graves photographic project and according to the info they do have a photo of his grave, but it is something you have to pay for.
£3-00 for an emailed copy or a Fiver for a hard copy

I posted in case you didn't have this or did not live near to.

Here is the link to the site in question

If you go on the above website there is a forum where you can ask questions about people who served or died on the HMS Zaria - looks quite interesting

Also if you put HMS Zaria in search box you will find pages of information

Hello Everyone,
Yes, I had all the above info but not the one about questions about who seved or died on the Zaria.
Its quite strange that it only says on the death cert died 'On War Service'.
Thanks again.

I don't find it strange. Typically, a war time service d.cert doesn't have more info than the CWGC site.
