In referance to Old's comment about having to pay for documents on the site, all of the US documents, in my personal research, I have been able to recieve free of charge. I have come across, though, a fee charged for some of the UK documents I wanted - but not all of them. I believe that is because certain sites have some kind of "rights" to certain documents and the LDS site can only referance those documents sending you to the "pay for' site. Documents transcribed by volunteers, though, through the LDS site, will remain free of charge for all.

I can now appreciate its potential, having confirmed 3 marriagesand earmarked one for further investigation.

However, I am surprised at the marriages it leaves out.

Christine

If it links to Bishops' Transcripts it would be extremely useful. I made my comment as all I got from my searches was links to Census and MYPAST.

I will try again with a relative where I already know the answer for a marriage dating to 1772

I am green with envy as it comes up with a message "not available" each time, even after checking my settings.

Thought it was just me, Old. Looking up a common name, it would cost a fortune if I had to use credits for each one - so frustrating, and thoughtless of my ancesters not to have a rare and unique name LOL

I must be missing something.

Having found a person I was looking for, in order to look at the record I have to subscribe to MYPAST. As I am a subscriber to Ancestry where I can get all the info on Censuses - what advantage does this pilot give me.

I am always looking for better ways to find my ancestors and would appreciate any further advice on this site

Thanks

I've been tooting this site for a while now...it's AWESOME!

Jean: A fix that will most likely fix the problem you are experiencing:

1. Click on START.
2. Click on CONTROL PANEL.
3. From the list generated, click on INTERNET OPTIONS.
4. A small screen will appear with labeled tabs, click on ADVANCED.
.5. Scroll down to the subheading SECURITY and find:

- USE SSL 2.0
- USE SSL 3.0
- USE TLS 1.0

In front of each of these items there should be a check mark in front of it....more than likely, on yours, only two of them are checked off. Put a check in front of the one that is not checked off using your mouse.

As long as you're in this area of your computer, also under the subheading, put a check mark in front of:

EMPTY TEMPORARY INTERNET FOLDER WHEN BROWSER IS CLOSED.

Click OK at the bottom of the screen

You might want to also empty your COOKIES and TEMPORARY INTERNET folders because they tend to retain bad websites.

Any problems or questions give me a shout.

It's great. Just been made aware of it so thought I would share the info. Everything seems to improve daily at the moment and I'm wondering where we will be in 20 years time.
