Do you think they had newspapers in 1864 in Willenhall, Walsall, Staffs?

I have a tragic death of a child aged 3.
cause of death..
Injuries caused by a quantity of oil of vitriol (sulfuric acid) being thrown over her. she died 3 days later.
30th May 1864.

God bless her!...she would have been my Grans Aunt.

Why don't you contact the county record office? At the very least they should tell you the titles of the relevant newspapers. If you can't visit the CRO or the BL repository at Colindale you could then try googling to see if there is online access.

Oh the poor little mite.

You could try Willenhall library to see if they hold any newspaper records...it is worth a try...

A member of staff at Dover library has been wonderful when I have been looking for obits etc for my family.

I also received a death cert for my 2x gt uncle who very sadly died aged 4 from horrific burns...and this member of staff very kindly sent me the inquest reports from the local newspaper...it was very very sad to read.

Good luck...

Have you got a name to search for? I have searched British 19th cent.Newspapers on line for Willenhall but nothing coming up about this accident -a name might be easier to search for -

For Willenhall/Wolverhampton there is the Express and Star also for Walsall there was the Walsall Observer which covered surrounding areas.

You can get the details re contact on the Internet just put in Google search Express & Star or Walsall Observer.

I believe the archives for the Express and Star are held at Wolverhampton library likewise for Walsall held at Walsall Library and possibly the Walsall Family history centre in Essex Street.

Hope this helps. May I say that the staff at the Express and Star offices are so helpful and polite.
