Inquest records Manchester?

Hello everyone

I've just got the death cert for my g/g/g/grandmother who died in 1875 in Manchester. In Cause of Death it says "Natural Causes" then under Informant it says that a certificate was provided by the Coroner of Manchester and the Inquest was held on X date.

Does anyone know if/how I could find records from the inquest?

Many thanks

Helen

The inquest record will usually not have been kept, especially tha tearly, but it will be recorded in the local paper of the time. The papers are on microfiche in the nearest library which has a family history section (Not the records office)

Google to find the Manchester libraries and look at the holdings to find where the papers are.
If you can't go yourself, they will offer a look up service. As you know the date of the inquest from the death cert, it will be quick for them to find.

I got detailed newspaper reports from the 1870's of an inquest, from the two local newspapers in the area concerned and I think it only cost me £12, certainly cheaper than my having to travel to get them.

I think you would need to check with Manchester Archives services to see if they hold them.
