Tracing Merchant seaman!

Hi,Would anyone be kind enough to advise me how to commence a search for my Grandfather presumed lost at sea between 1939 -45, this is all i have to go on, apart from name of course.
Any help much appreciated.

If you google your ancestor's name and merchant seaman lost at sea 1939 to 1945 you may be lucky to find a ship come up.
