Patricia,
Peter is correct, order the certificate it may be very helpful. Places of birth are given on the census returns however they are by no means accurate, worth a look though.

Patricia,

Sylvia is right that there may be inaccuracies on a death certificate but I would urge you to get it. They are much less predictable than other certificates: the circumstances of death may be interesting and the informant can unlock a mystery. Go for it.

Not on an English or Welsh certificate

The only things that are accurate on one of those certificates are:-

date of death
cause of death
place of death
name of doctor (if given)
name of informant
address of informant

All the other information given is that which was known to the informant, and this may not be accurate!

That is:-

name of dead person
age of dead person
marital status of dead person (may or may not have wife/husband or widow/widower of xxxx)
address of dead person

Before I order a death certificate from 1866 can anyone tell me what information would be on there. Would they show place of birth?
