Barry, thank you for your input. My friend is looking for her birth Mother as she was adopted in 1952. It is proving quite difficult to get access to any records in Canada. I am just hoping someone will point me in the right direction, but so far I am told that there are strict privacy rules in Canada which may hinder our search. We only know that she went to Canada in 1958. We know nothing after that. Thanks for taking the time to help, it is much appreciated.

Oh my! Thank you Margaret. It must make family research very difficult for people with relatives in Canada then. How on earth do we find people? Thanks anyway.

There is no such thing as a Canadian BMD, each province has their own. Also it's almost impossible to access any records as recent as 1958 in Canada.
Don't know what to suggest.

Hi,

Can anyone please tell me if there is a Canadian BMD Index online. I am trying to trace Irene Gladys Mary Hartley who left the UK in 1958. I want to look for a marriage record in Canada and any subsequent births. I would be grateful of any help in how to go about my search in Canadian records or any useful websites.

Many thanks in advance. Please accept my apologies for not replying straight away as I am off to work soon.
