My advice as someone who knows that my brother had a child with another woman about 1945 when he was only 15/16 and she was 21 but married to someone else ............. and the only person living who does know this ..............

If your grandfather had wanted people to know, especially you, he would have told you, or left a letter for after his death.


I was only about 5 at the time, but had an idea of soemthing at the time, then brother confirmed it after our father died in 1970. Brother died in 1990.


Yes, I am a little curious about this other niece that I have ....... but I am not about to go digging.

The child is unlikely to have been registered in the name of Green, then. More likely in the mothers name as they weren't married. Very difficult, if not impossible, I'm afraid.

yes, my grandad is still alive but he doesn't know i know and wouldn't talk about it anyway.

Do you mean your Grandad is still alive? Also, when you say the name is Green, do you mean that you know that the mothers name was Green? If so, that makes it much easier.

Well if you know where your grandfather was born and you know when that would narrow down any hits you get. Once you have a list of those that match click on their names and make a note of their membership number. Once you have a list of these try another family members name perhaps your grandfathers father or mother. Then compare any hits with your previous list. That way you should be able to identify any possibles.

So you know a possible location for the birth but you don't know the childs name or the mothers name. The birth will be under the mothers surname.
Pershore's population is 7000 over 15 year olds so we can estimate that it had a population of 5000 in the fifties. There were 8 births in pershore district in 2005 and I would assume that although the population was smaller in the fifties there was less access to contraception so there were probably about 8 to 10 births each year.

Now as for Kidderminster the population in 2001 was 55,000. Working on the same basis as before you have a choice of approxiamately 55 births per year. Without knowing the mothers name or any other info it's highly unlikely you'll find anything.

I assume you've checked to see if your grandfather appears in anyone elses tree?

unfortunatly not :o( having just helped my grandparents re-make their will i know exactly what's in my grandad's.

think i'm going to try and compile a list of possibilities for now and then figuring things out from there.

its come as such a shock that I feel anything i can find may help me a little.

I don't think you will have any chance of finding the person without a name. The only possibility I can think of, is that if he left a will, the child may have got a mention.

i know where the affair took place, i have no real intention of contacting this person or their family, and as its a family secret no one else will probable find out about it, i know that now makes the search seem a bit pointless but its more for a piece of mind really.

And how on earth would you know which birth reg'n was relevant? I doubt if the father's name was included.

I'm sure you'll treat this with appropriate sensitivity, but do remember that not everyone will share your delight in discovering family stories. Think carefully before each step to make sure you don't cause upset. This can happen with the best of intentions. I should know - I've done it myself.

hello, i've just found out my Grandfather has another child by another woman. big secret and all that is known is that this child exists because he sent maintenance money each week, no idea where it was sent or who the woman was.

it is possible he used to meet this lady when he went home to visit his mother so i'm guessing she is from that area which is either Pershore or Kidderminster. My mum thinks the child is younger than she is, so born after 1953.

my question is, does anyone know if there is a free website where i can search records without any name? if i can search the records by place instead i feel i will be a possible step closer to finding my half-uncle or aunt.
