1861 Census this site

Could someone confirm (or otherwise) that there is a problem on this site with the 1861 census. For example:

I looked for Alexander Greaves of Bradden, b1805 plus or minus 5 on this site and found no matches which surprised me. I put the exact details on Find My Past and Ancestry and had one match, the same, on each. I put the same details again from scratch on all three to make sure there were no mistakes and once again no return from GR. I have other people I have been trying to find in 1861 with the same non-results.

The problem is I have not subscribed to the other two yet, only this site, so the details are not in depth. But why don't matches appear on this site?

I don't use the GR records. I believe they don't actually hold any but direct you to other sites.

The problem arises because they may have been mis transcribed.

Probably the same reason why you can find things on Find my Past and not Ancestry..it depends who transcribed it.....I know some that have found things on here and not on the other 2

Hi Christine,
That's the one. I am truly grateful. If they are mis-transcribed how is it they appear on other sites?

Anyway, that fills a space very nicely, which site do you use for censuses?

Silly me, I thought everyone used the same sources for censuses. I didn't realise they had been transcribed more than once.

Different sites use different transcriptions.

Those details were from Ancestry.

Thanks Christine. All I have to do now is prove that he was the father of Alexander Greaves Bonner (I am pretty sure he is). I think he was a bit of a lad.
