How to find my Grandfather, he was named on my mothers birth certificate, He was about, through the early years of her life.
When her mother died, there was never any contact again.as she was taken in by a family.
There is no one to ask about him. they were both music hall artistes,in Scotland. I seem to have come to a fruitless end,.
Has anybody any ideas.
I know he was well to do, so you would think he would be easy to find, being on the stage.
Any thoughts would be welcome.

I would assume, he would'nt have used his own name, as my grandmother used a stage name.
many thanks

Porkie Pie
I must admit I have done that many times, for others, but had not thought about that for him.
Many thanks I shall give that at try.

Were they alive in 1901?

Have you looked for another marriage after his first wife died?

If they worked together, any info would include both of them..........try googling the wife's stage name.............

They worked as part of a troop, I don't know the name of it. they were working from 1900-1939, when she died.

Ericthered
I've googled his name, but only came up with some of the roads, that I had already gone down. then I tried my grandmothers stage name, and pretty similar.
The trouble my late mother also used to tour, with them as a child. The troop mainly used to tour around small halls ets in Scotland.but , the usual thing, at the time you don't want to know, until it's too late!

They were not married,my Grandmother & Grandfather. But her husband was also in the troop!!
Her husband was not my Grandfather.

I can only suggest getting in touch with the mitchell Library in Glasgow. They might not have any records about the troop but they may be able to point you in the right direction.

My mums cousin was a music hall artiste and so was her husband. He used a stage name. He was a well known comedian. Not sure about her. They both married using their real names.

If your grandfather put his name on the birth cert Im sure it would be his real name and not a stage name.

Yes, that is a good thought, had'nt thought of that one, I shall give it a try,
Many thanks.

I find it so frustrating, not finding any sources of info.on the music hall life, I have been on the scottish music hall society site, although very very interesting, did not help me with my plight.
You are lucky that they were famous, mine were only known within their audiences.touring.
Hey ho we plod on.
Many thanks for your thoughts.
