Grandad is oldest John Thomas Wilson 1897 known as Jack, found one in murton with grandparents Knox but can't tie Knox back to family tree. his birth cert states Ryhope as birth address but no joy there either looked at every page in 1901 for Ryhope.

Have you found him and his wife on the 1901 census?

That should give you his place of birth and age. His age should also be on his marriage cert.

I have a great grandad Robert Wilson 1870 miner re marrige cert no address given, father John Wilson miner. Robert married Elizabeth Ann Miller but to trace back further surely i need his birth place!!

How do i go about this as i don't know where he came from? tried searching for him and there are 1000's with the same name and birth.

All i know is that he died in Murton, Co Durham after 1917 (last child born) but before 1936 (died before grandson born). how would i trace this as i can't find his death listed under Easington which would be the nearest record office to register his death.

ANY suggestions greatfully received been at this forever (feels like it).
