if you hold the mouse pointer over any email address, a box will pop up that tells you the REAL address.

If the email address is a true one, then the box address will match

If it is a scam, you can see where your "reply" would be going.

You can use this method to check all those bank emails you get!

If any box shows a different address, then treat the email as scam, do not reply to it, and trash it

Thank you everyone for your replies. Sorry I couldn´t get back before now. Rob G it isn´t the same as yours, when I look at it again it is just an email address .....a name [email protected].
It asks to confirm my email address & password, and looking at it objectively it looks quite amateurish.
And of course if they really were hotmail then they would have that info already or I wouldn´t have been able to get into my emails in the first place!
Sorry to be so thick about this I just panicked as I have just got a web address which is the same as my email one. I appreciate everyone who wrote about this, thank you all.

I'm pretty sure that the last time they increased the inbox capacity limit (to around 5 GB) they said they were getting rid of the need to sign in every 30 days to keep the account active, too.

Before then, if you didn't sign in once a month your account had to be verified again or it was closed, I think.

Hi this morning I received an email from Hotmail saying that there is congestion with accounts and they are closing certain accounts.
and to respond within 24 hours. I think it is a scam, but as I use my account every day, I can´t afford to risk this. I will try and contact Hotmail about this, but I just want people to be aware. I will be off line for a few hours, but would be interested to know if any of you have received this message from Hotmail.
