Please excuse my Ignorance, but I have finally reached the end of the information that the Census' can give.
I would like to find the birth record of a lady called -
Margaret Hull, born c1829. In Lancashire.
How do I find the birth?
She isn't on Ancestry, or Familysearch, nor on the Lancashire BMD.
I live in Birmingham so I can't really go the Library there to manually search for her birth record.
Can I order it online?
Any help with this subject would be great!

You won't find a birth record prior to 1837, what you may find is a record of the baptism.
The IGI holds a lot (www.familysearch.org) and there are other sites depending on the area of interest, try Googling 'Parish records and AREA', substituting whatever area you are interested in.
Not all parish records are online though so eventually it will mean using a Records Office. You can visit yourself or you could contact them and ask them if they would be willing to search for you - some will but they will usually charge. You also need to know which Church the baptism is likely to have taken place in. For small villages there will usually only be one Church but if you just say Birmingham for example, there could be loads which will obviously mean a lot more searching!

I really don't have a clue what to do - as she isn't on the family search site, I have just been on the Lancashire Online Parish Records site, but the village she registered her sons birth at - Kirkham, Lancashire has only transcribed the Marriages upto 1600's - so no use there.
I will try and find a phone number for them and ask them to try and find her - I don't mind paying - I just didn't know where to approach.
I have her on the 1841 census as a servant and on the 1851 census as a servant - she then disappears - so I presume she married.
Her sons were born 1846 & 1849, when she was 16 and then 19, there is no father on either Birth Certificate as I have them both.

I do have that record saved to my shoebox, as both her sons were registered in Fylde.
I will be sending for that marriage certificate soon, but to be honest I really wanted to find her birth, so I can find further relatives that way.
But as usual the one person you want to find proves ellusive!!!!

She never had her sons to live with her by the looks of things as soon as they were born, as she was a live in servant, they went to live with her parents - their grand parents.
When she married she still didn't have them back - what a shame!

I have just emailed Kirkham Library to see if they hold the parish records there, and if they will have a look for me.
I have offered to pay any fee thats needed, so I'll wait for a reply.

Hi,
I have ruled out all the Margaret Hull's on IGI, as its Margarets Son that we are related from, and he is listed on the census' as living with Grandparents, Lawrence and Agnes Hull.
There was no mention of Margaret Hull, and no mention of the boys parents, so to find out for certain I ordered both boys BC's, they arrived with no father and Margaret Hull as the Mother.
I then tried to find Margaret, and she is on the 1st census, 1841 as a 15 year old servant living close to parents Lawrence and Agnes, by 16 she has had her 1st son also Lawrence. Then aged 19 she has another son George.
I want to find her birth records to make sure Lawrence and Agnes are indeed her parents, as all I really have to go on is that they are stated as her boys grandparents.
BUT I have learned that not all is as it seems on some of the census returns so would like to confirm it!

If you go to the Kirkham page on Lancashire OPC site, underneath "Marriages" there is a box with Email in it; click on that and you can email the online Parish Clerk - they may have the baptism records you are looking for.

Got to the LDS/IGI home: http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp
While there, find an FHC in centre column - at a quick glance, I didn' see a listing for Brum, but e.g., there was one for Wednesfield/ Wolverhampton. Now select library-library caralogue from the blue bar at top, and do a place search for say, Kirkham, Lancashire.
It would seem they don't have a copy of the original parish registers. They do have a (non-circulating) copy of:

However, this stops too soon for you. They also have a copy of the church's official copy, which was a copy made for deposit in the local diocese office, known as the Bishops Transcripts.

Just a quick note to say thanks for all the information I am saving it all for future use!
I have emailed the Lancashire records office that look after the parish records, and awaiting a reply, as to a fee or waiting time.
I will post the answers as soon as I get any.

Just an update - the Lancashire Central Library have emailed back saying they will not help me, and the only option is to visit them, as I live in Birmingham thats not an option, or to pay for a professional geneologist to look for me.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
I have posted on the records office asking for anyone visiting the Lancashire Offices - if they can have a look - but no responses yet.
