Does anyone know where Cummer is?

There is an atlas volume associated with Lewis:
https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/Atlas_to_the_Topographical_Dictionary_of_Ireland
Unfortunately, only 19 of the 32 maps have been posted, and Clare is one of the missing.

The entry for Curofin starts "CUROFIN, or COROFIN, a small market and post-town, in the parish of KILNEBOY..." I imagine this is the Anglican parish. The entry for Kilneboy contains "In the R. C. divisions the parish forms part of the union or district of Curofin, comprising also the parish of Rath; there are three chapels, situated respectively at Kilneboy, Curofin, and Rath." One can check the location of the Rath parish records at: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/index.htm

Hi mgnv,

That website you gave me is brilliant! I've just found listed under Curofin (which shows on googlemaps next to Cummer) a mention of the Roman Catholic Chapel which my ancestors married in in 1863.

I'm thrilled to bits. Thanks so much.

Although Cummer isn't mentioned, a useful general guide to placenames is Lewis's topographical dictionary:

Hi Simon,

Aha. I just found that before you posted and I updated my original posting. Looks like the place and my guess about boundries could be correct.

Thanks.

I've just recieved 2 Irish certs from 1863 and 1868, one birth and one marriage. They're both in the district of Islandeady, Westport, Mayo and the residential address is Cummer.

It doesn't appear on googlemaps but from googling 'Cummer', it seems to have been a parish name. Does anyone know anything about this place and where in Islandeady it may have been situated?

There's a Cummer in Galway. Could this be the same place? I'm wondering if boundries changed.
