The only Alice I can find born Cheadle is the 1901 one.

i see Arthur was the oldest,meaning that could be the fathers name,
but Harry is the line i'm on.

i've just heard that there might be a Alice about 1916, but not sure.

i notice in BMD staffs, there were lots of Callear, and in Cheadle.

Janet, the children don't have the mother's surname. They are called Callear with mother's maiden name Nixon. The only reason a Callear/Nixon marriage was questioned was because it couldn't be found. That's why I thought she may have been married before.

Well spotted on the Callear/ Wakelam. At least Bill doesn't have to go down that path.

Just checking the possible marriage offered (Callear/Wakelam)-don't think it can be, as that couple had a child in June 1913 and Callear/Nixon had child in Dec 1913-also both couples had girls called Lily -June 1911/Dec 1911. Is there any reason to think that Nixon is not the name of the mother.? Occasionally when all children have the mother's surname it may be that the parents weren't married.-J

Now not all these births are necessarily your couple. However there's not a lot of Callear births in Cheadle & none to anybody other than Nixon between 1912-1917 so there's a good possibility a couple of these may be yours. Especially as they seem to come along about every two years.

There is the chance that the mother may have been married before so her maiden name would be on the birth index, but her former married name on the marriage index.

It looks like you'll have to buy Harry's birth cert to find out who the mother was.
