Chuckle, chuckle, Margaret.

Yes she was a wily old bird, but not quite that old! A slip of the finger. Sorry, I meant 1972.

Still a lot of quarters to trawl through.

Ozi.

Ozi

Your grandma was 114 when she died? That is so impressive!

It can only be narrowed down from 1913. My grandmother was born in 1878 & lived until 1992. That's a lot of quarters to trawl through, & will it be the correct Sarah Chapman?

The other point is that Sarah may have moved from West Ham where youngest was born. Then where do you start looking?

Julie, is there an older relative in the family who can give you an idea where & when she might've died?

Ozi.

I would reckon you might be able to narrow it down slightly, age-wise. If she was married in 1894 and her last child was born in 1913, that suggests to me she is likely to have been born somewhere between c.1865 (making her 48 when the youngest arrived) and c.1878 (making her about 16 at marriage and 35 when the youngest arrived).

So assuming she didn't remarry, you could try starting from the year she would have been 100 and working backwards. (Just noticed - if you have got her on the 1901 census, you probably have got an age already.)

You'd need the full index on Ancestry, though - not just the FreeBMD one because it won't be complete for the time you're looking at.

After about 1930 you could start looking for her on electoral rolls. What information are you wanting to get?

Julie, if you have no idea of when she died it will be a long, arduous task. Sarah Chapman is a fairly common name, even in West Ham where youngest was born.

For example:
Deaths Mar 1914
Chapman Sarah 84 W. Ham 4a 256
Deaths Mar 1916
Chapman Sarah A 74 W. Ham 4a 302
Deaths Mar 1929
CHAPMAN Sarah 75 W Ham 4a 636
Deaths Jun 1930
Chapman Sarah 89 W.Ham 4a 202

Now which one is she? and she could've have lived into the 1980s!
