I have in my possession a 'Dog Tag' marked with a 8 digit number followed by Sullivan LSRC. Would anyone know what LSRC stands for?
Could be World War II?

I would be grateful if anyone could give me any information.

Thank you!

After Googling the only thing I can find for LSRC is Land Systems Reference Centre which has something to do with the army and is situated at Blandford Camp in Dorset.

I don't think this would have been there during the war though.

Hi,

I've just shown your query to my hubby who is an ex soldier. He thinks eight digit service personnel numbers came into being after WW2 but he's not sure. He's not sure what the LSRC stands for either so has posted the question on his regimental forum in the hope that someone on there might be able to help. I will let you know if they come up with anything.

Hi,

hubby has just checked back on his regimental forum and found several replies. The current format for information on dog tags is as follows;

blood group,
service number,
surname,
initials,
religion

so it would seem that the LS would have been the persons initials and the RC the religion. No information regarding rank has ever been shown on dog tags. If you would like to narrow down when this person served it can be done using the service number. If you want to send me the number in a pm I will see what I can find out for you..

I hope this helps.

Hi Caz perhaps Graeme can correct me on this.......

8 digits indicates a squaddie of some kind whereas a 6 digit no. was reserved for officers?( in the British Army anyway)
