Numerous relatives in my family were known as Siss or Cissie...nothing to do with their Christian names at all...just 'pet' names for a favourite sister!

In some cases the oldest or the youngest female child.

Hi Michelle,

Perhaps you could try Sarah?

My grandmothers sister was called Sarah but known as Sissy/Cissie.

Thats ok Michael, I knew what you meant, as I already had those relatives in my tree, I just checked that Charles and Olive never had any children of the same name that could also be a siss.
Thanks

that is true, I did think that whilst looking at my tree, its possible shecould have been the youngest gg aunt, that he used to see, I guess we will never know.
Thankyou all for your views I raelly do appreciate them, this has been bugging me for atleast a year!

It could also be a great aunt - thus another generation he spoke about. I called my Great Aunt Cis, just aunt Cis.

None of the names above appeared to have Charles and Olive as there parents , nothing that stood out anyway.
I am still thinking its possibly Beatrice Buckner, which I will wait and see if my contact replies, otherwise i may have to just get the birth certificate to rule it in or out.
thanks again for all your help.

Thankyou Mick I will have alook at the above names, and see what I can find.

I didnt think about a lady he may have called aunt but may not have actually been his aunt, that is also a possibility.
Many thanks

Thanyou for all your replies, I have tried all the names mentioned above and its defianately not any of them.
If it is Beatrice, she wasnt the youngest girl either, so that theory wouldnt work either well not for mine anyway.

The only thing I can think of its something completely different and I will never know what it is unless I find a contact with all the siblings in. It could quite literally be anything.
I think I will have to get the birth certificate for the Beatrice I found and hope for the best that her mother and father are Charles and Olive.

Cissie is a nickname taken from the word sister, and can be used for any girls name,
also Cecilia, Cecily

I also have a great aunt Mary Ann who was known as Cis. I dont know if this is actually to do with Mary Ann as a name, or whether its just cos it was the youngest girl.

Hi there, i have been researching my family tree and my GG grandparents were Charles Buckner and Olive Bew. I have most of their childrens names , but i am stuck on one.

My grandad gave me a list of the names and one of them was a lady he called Aunty Siss. This obviously isnt the proper name as i have searched this and quite literally every other name that sounds like it or that it can be short for, and still nothing, until now.

I have found a possible match for:

Beatrice B M Buckner b. Dec 1903 wokingham. 2c 377
married a Mr Farrant Sept 1930 Brentford 3a 451

But that still is not 100% that her parents were the named above.

Is it possible that Siss could be a nickname or short name for Beatrice? Has anyone heard of this before?

My grandad unfortunately died earlier this year and all he could say was it was 'Siss'.I cant find anything in trees as this isnt the full name, I have found a Beatrice in one tree, for which I have mesaged that contact in hope of shedding some light.

Thankyou for taking the time to read.
Regards
Michelle
