Looks like he was adopted:

You need to read this:

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/adoptions/

When a court issues an adoption order a new birth entry is made in the Adopted Children Register. This replaces the original birth entry. The order also instructs the General Register Office to ensure the original birth entry is marked ‘adopted’.

You can write to the GRO asking for the birth cert using the name and date of birth - you don't need the GRO ref number. They will do a 3 year search if you don't have the full dob (although I think you might need it for any birth within the last 50 years anyway).

If the record is there they should find it for you that way. (It may cost a bit more than £7.00 by the way.)

Hi,can anyone please help? I have been looking for the birth certificate for a Dean William Pinder, but when i found it on an entry, the page number was crossed out and written in pen with a /s after it. I then tried ordering a copy but they keep sending a part refund, saying it cant be found. It may sound daft, but its in black and white, Oct.- Dec. quarter 1967. HELP.
