hi - can anyone tell me if 'Sonny' would just have been a pet family name or would it have been a short form of the birth name. Any help or ideas appreciated. thanks.

Depends what year I think. I know someone called Sonny - officially that is, but further back in time it sounds more like a pet name.

I had an Uncle Son - he was the only boy in the family. Real name = George.
