Hi
I have a marriage certificate for Horace Howard Heslington and Eliza Jane Smith from September 1908. This states he was 27 at the time of marriage. County is Warwick and they lives in Aston.
I'm looking for his birth certificate, but haven't found anyone of this name around this date.
However on the 1891 census there is a Homer Heslington (age 9) who has a sister called Florence - who is also listed as a witness at the wedding. Area is also Aston.

Do you think Homer became Horace?

Can you find Homer/Horace on the 1901 census?

If you can only find one of them it seems likely that this one is your man.

Does his father's name on the marriage cert match with the family you found in 1891?

Yes Blossom- that is the census I was looking at.

Father's name is William Henry on the marriage certificate so that does tie in with the census.

Thanks

Jim/Thelma

Thanks for the 1901 census. Although the surname has been mistranscribed, it looks like the same family. There is obviously some reason why Horace does not appear on the 1891 census but then appears in the 1901 one. Strange....

Thanks all

Horace does appear on the 1891 - if you look at the image it doesn't say Homer, it says Horace, albeit badly written.

Just realised he is on the 1891 census but as Homer (which as someone says was probably a mis-transcription).

All help much appreciated - many thanks
