Changing my community name

TinaTheCheshirePussyCat Report 3 Jan 2009 00:44

I have been away from GR for some time and have only just returned (although I never allowed my sub to lapse). The bit in My Account where I can add a community name is new to me - I used to have to put in my "name on the boards" in the surname section. I am trying to add a community name, but it won't have it. Just keeps saying - Error, that community name is not allowed. Now, my old community name included a perfectly innocent reference to our feline friends which an overzealous filter might take exception to, but even if I take that word out, it still won't have it.

Can anyone help me. Otherwise my old friends won't know who I am!

Tina the Cheshire Pussy Cat (let's see if it will let me add it on this message)

Nice to see you back, Tina. There was some chat that GR no longer allows spaces & symbols. If you're trying to use those then that may be the problem.

Ozi.

Certainly spaces are no longer allowed, so Bilbo Baggins is out, BilboBaggins is ok.

Not sure but I believe certain symbols, especially those at the beginning of your name, are also outlawed as they caused problems.

Forget the community name space.
Enter your preferred board name as your first name.

Hi everyone. It's good to be back - at least it will be once I have sorted this name thing out, and already, it's beginning to annoy me! Thank you for the info about no spaces and symbols. I tried Bilbo's suggestion and left out all the spaces. It seems to be happy with that, but insists I have to put in my password in order to save the new name. However, when I do that, it tells me there is already someone registered with that email and password. Well, of course there is. It's me, for crying out loud!

Jim/Thelma, I may have to give in and follow your suggestion. But then, when anyone wants to send me a message about someone in my tree, they find themselves writing to this lunatic woman who thinks she is a cat. Ah well, you can't choose your relatives.......

Anyone remember the affair of the purple fur and the pole dancing? Happy days.

Tina (still the Cheshire Pussy Cat)

PS Ooooh look - it worked despite the error message!!! Many thanks my friends.

It appears that if you make any alterations to your profile, you are also prompted to re-enter your password to confirm the changes.

Someone previously thought it was prompting you to change your password, but this isn't the case, as far as I can tell.

Thanks for info on this thread.
I too have been receiving "Error" messages when I tried to put in a Community name.
If this comes up with 4 words then it has worked, if with one is still has not.
Thank you one and all!
