Suz, you need to buy his birth certificate, using that ref from GRO online for £7 which will give his place of birth, mum and dads full names and dads occupation.

When did his father die, do you know? Im just wondering if he did die, mum may have remarried and your chap is under step dads surname. Do we know mums name?

i have a STEPHEN ALFRED MARKHAM b 1898 on his marriage cert it says he was living Stallingborough Lincolnshire his father Alfred Henry,so maybe he was born lincolnshire,i cant find him in the 1901 census,can u help.thanks.
