I have found members of the ALSTOWE family on family search 1861 born in Essex Lancashire and Suffolk. They do not seem to appear on any other census. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thankyou

I think we need a bit more info re first names and dates of birth,

Thankyou Margaret. Thomas Alstowe born Burnley 1857 William born Halstead Essex 1848 and Ambrose born Ipswich Suffolk 1820. Any help would be lovely.

Are you sure you've got the spelling right.

familysearch only has 1881 England/Wales & doesn't have any Alstowes. Or on the IGI.

I can't find Alstowe/varients born those counties on any other census; all born Ireland, Scotland, Kent, Gloucestershire.

There are no Alstowe on freebmd either.

Thankyou Ozi I found them on the family search pilot site also on find my past. The spelling is correct. There are 17 Alstowe born between 1820 and 1857.

1861:
Thomas Alston James, Elizabeth abt 1857 Gannow, Westmorland, England Son Habergham Eaves, Lancashire

Burnley reg'n district.

That's the best I can do. No Alstowe or Alstone except these.

Thankyou so much Ozi The names and dates you are giving me are transcribed as Alstowe on the two sites I have mentioned. My family name is Alstowe and we were always led to believe we were the only ones so I was thrilled when it looked as though there could be others with this surname.
