Maybe there's new ruling then.
In December I ordered and received death certs for 1996 and 2001.
I only knew names and quarters and GRO references.

Dear Zannamar

To order a cert from GRO you normally need the Year, Qtr and GRO reference. If you have those 3 items there should be no problem.

There are ways round it if you haven't got all that info, but they cost more.

No idea because I've never ordered a recent cert.

You could try the register office where the birth was located. Perhaps they have different rules. The GRO reference you have will mean nothing to them though.

Hi Rose,
as far as i know the person is still alive. If I phoned the records office would they be able to look it up and copy it for me?

From the GRO site:

Q8. What certificates can I order online?
For births, marriages and deaths registered in England and Wales, you may apply online for any certificate if you have the full GRO index reference. In the case of events in the last 50 years you will be prompted to supply further details as you complete the online application form.

Is the person still alive? If not, you could get the date of birth from the death registration.

Could someone see if they can order what i want and see how far they get and if it asks for DOB?

I believe that you need full date of birth ( and possibly other details?) to be able to order a birth certificate for a birth within the last 50 years, from GRO site.
I have ordered recent death certs. with no bother though.

I tried ordering using quarter , volume and page reference but it still asked for the actual date of birth. His birth was in july/aug/sept 1962 also states cost is £10, how do I get it for £7.00?

BUY THE CERT!...7 quid!

If you want to buy a BMD cert, heres how and here
is the addy where you can buy it online... (copy n paste the following...)

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Never pay more than £7
For a marriage,you only need
put one partners name when ordering.

If you are ordering online from the GRO,
make sure that when the form asks
"Is the full GRO reference known?"
that you tick the 'yes' box.

To order a birth certificate from the GRO you need the year, quarter, volume and page number. You do not need the actual date of birth.

When is the birth? If you have the GRO reference you don't need it.
