PC help needed - compresssed files

You don't need to defrag weekly. In fact unless you regularly load and delete lots of files it is only necessary to defrag every six - twelve months.

Defrag will only speed up the the time it takes to access data on your hard disk, and only then when the files you are accessing are already fragmented.

It will not compensate for insufficient memory or a processor that is no longer up to the task, nor will it improve your internet access times.

The improvement you've gotten was probably at least partly due to the fact that your files were probably defragged during the compression. Follow Judy's advice, and defrag regularly. I've somehow managed to schedule a weekly defrag (for Thurs 4:00 am).

Now that you learned to do DISK SCAN make sure that you follow up by DEFRAGGING your PC - also found under SYSTEMS TOOLS. It's should be done on occasion to clean up your PC and keep it running smoothly.

Wow, I´m relieved I amost did delete them.
I´ve just looked up that link. So it seems they become "uncompressed" when I use them, (my documents take ages to come up anyway, tho it does say compression makes them take longer) I did this clean up because my PC is running so slowly, and driving me crazy. At the moment it says Capacity 74.53 gb. Free space 60.75 GB. Free Space 81%. That sounds good to me, but I don´t know if it is or not. I thought it was because I have 1000´s of photos stored that everything was slow but things have improved now after the compression. Many thanks BB I appreciate your help.

No need to do anything, as Windows handles it for you automatically. DO NOT DELETE as you will loose your data.

I´ve learnt to do Disk Clean up and now it says I have 2,615,710 compressed files. Is it okay just to delete these, seems an awful lot to keep, but would hate to delete all my gen...lol.
Or do they become "uncompressed" when I access them normally, e.g obtaining documents? any advice appreciated.
