Hiya,

I had a quick look at the complete register for births in 1907 and there are 7 different Arthur Marshall's and not knowing for certain an area, I think there is only buying the certificates to find out.

You could ring up GRO and give the mothers and fathers name as a search reference and they will search a 5 year period for Arthur, I think they charge £4.50 if they don't find him and £10-15? if they do, so its a bit more expensive but its cheaper than buying different certficates.

I know how you feel having searched for so long. The reason I started my own family tree was to find my husbands granfather, and after just 2 years I haven't found him and I'm so frustrated!!!!

Hopefully someone else more experienced could give you some more advice.

I am looking for a birth certificate / registry entry for my Grandfather, known as Arthur Marshall, b.29.9.1907.
His father was Robert Henry Marshall, b.1872 his mother Rose Thompson b.1873 (from buying a sibling's certificate). The family definitely lived in Maidstone at that time, (I have the evidence for that and have been there for help already. There are no records there which match, even assuming that he was not registered as Arthur). From the 1901 census I know that Rose came from Reepham, Norfolk. I bought another certificate from Norfolk but again, not the right one. I have been using this site, ancestry and freebmd and been looking for about 5 years now! The family were in Tottenham in 1901, perhaps Rose went back there to have this son...
I should really appreciate any help which might find this certificate which doesn't mean buying the wrong certificates from GRO. Thanks
