also which sites are best to search for American Birth records? there seem to be so many I dont know which would be the most useful? can you obtain copies of birth certificates from America?

Hi, The lady in question is my nan Emily Louisa archer she married aged 20 Arthur Henry Huggins in Hackney in 1892 , I do have the Marriage certificate and on that her fathers name is John Archer a stonemason.
It is on the 1901 census when she was living in Northwold Rd Hackney that it was noted she was born in the United States.
I have located Arthur Higgins birth record and he was born in Hackney in 1871. i dont know if I could find out anywhere if he went to america at all?

Just wondered if anyone could give me advise on tracing some one from America. I though about Passport applications but as I dont know when she came over, where do I start? I know she was born 1872 in America (but not where abouts)and was over here by 1892 when she got married. Is there anywhere I can check passport applications year by year?
any advise would be greatly appreciated ;-)
