Christine Report 11 Jan 2009 21:18

Hi
Does anyone know how long a coroners report is data protected? Is it possible to acquire a report ? If so, where should I start my search/enquiry ?
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
The death I am interested in was in 1854 Surrey

Thanks in anticipation

Chris,

Data protection is not an issue as it appears that most Coroner's reports are discarded after just a few years. Most similar questions have been answered with the advice to check the local newspaper of that time.

Perhaps the Surrey Archive will be able to advise which papers covered the relevant area at that time
See the following link for details relating to Surrey inquests.

Hi Christine ,I Have just tried to get my Grandmothers who died in 1947 and this is the reply i got back from the Library

Thank you for your enquiry. Coroner's records are closed to access for 75 years after the event, but I shall have a look at the local newspapers to see if they include a report of the inquest. I'll be in touch again next week to let you know if I have any success

Thanks

Pete, Joan and June

You have all been very informative and thank you so much.
Sorry for the delay, I just went to look at something else on GR and it has taken me almost 20 mins to get back here.
I hate this new site.

Thank you all once again
