Hope this is what you mean. Suppose you have an ancestor who lived in a workhouse and you wanted to find out more , ..... this is only an example..... enter the word workhouse in inverted commas......"Workhouse" then suppose you knew the area where the workhouse was...eg... Holmfirth........ this is what you would put into your search engine
"Workhouse"+"Holmfirth"
I usually keep the request to two words
Then see what the engine throws up and usually there is something of interest. J Le

I usually google the ancestors name plus place or occupation. For example, googling the name and village of one of my ancestors found me a photograph of him that I had never seen!

It helps if they lived in a small village or had an unusual name - my main line is Hill and googling that is usually a waste of time as I get thousands of results...

Hi all,

Can anybody give me any ideas on what sort of things to enter into search engines to try and find a bit more information on my ancestors. I know a lot of them wont be on the internet but i'm not sure on what to enter to try and get some good results,
