hi ann,
you don't give a time period or a possible nationality but i googled it and come up with gangs of new york written 1928, which is something that young soldiers might have tried to emulate?

thanks George - that has been suggested by some who have looked at the photograph

Ann
is it not the Celtic expression for boys?, certainly it features in Scotland and Ireland, and most likely Wales, seems to be plenty of references on google to that effect.

Could it be B Coys? Short for B Company.

I have a photograph of my husband's grandfather in army uniform with about eight colleagues all in uniform too, and in front of them is a board with the words "Some of the B'Hoys" = any idea what this might mean please?
