Hi Sam, Thanks for that info not sure they will have anything more than what we already have though. We have the details on him up until the point he was handed over to the police for deportation we even know when this was the prison claimed not to know what happened to him after he was signed over to the police so it is the police records or deportation details we are after. Will certainly get onto that records office and see if there is anything more but I think it unlikely.
With thanks

Durham Records Office hold the records for Newcastle Prison. See here:

Hi,
The information was a copy from Newcastle Prison records which was inside a letter found in family processions. With it was a letter being returned to his parent unread informing them of his deportment. We know he was locked up for non payment of fines for a month. He was arrested 19 jan 1918 and sent to pentoville prison, transferred to Newcastle where he was released to the police for deportation on 23rd Feb 1918. The family believe this may have been due to his learning difficulties. I know at the time a number of letters were written to both the prison and the police to try and get info but none was forthcoming. The family never heard from him again as far as we are aware.

Which prison record book? Perhaps whichever prison you are talking about will have records about why and when he was imprisoned which would be a start.

Hi Sue,
Thanks for that, didn't find anything on who I am looking for, but will certainly have to look up some other things of mine, now I know how. We know when he was arrested and we have the date of when he was released from prison and handed over to newcastle police for deportation but we have no idea what happened to him from this day forward.

Put your key words into search, full name or surname and deportation.

You can then filter too many results by using exact phrases and all the words.

No I haven't done anything yet as first time trying to find out this sort of information didn't have a clue where to start. Just been on to that site but so far can't work my way around it so would be grateful for any tips on using the site.
With thanks.

Have you checked the London Gazette online? They have some reports about people being deported.

Hi,
My brother in law has a relative of which he has a copy of page from the prison record book which says he was deported from this country in 1918. How would we find out where he was deported to and can you get hold of police records?
With thanks for any help.
