Say I'm looking for a female after 1901..but there are too many marriages ......if I make a note of every marriage and possible married names...and then look up 1911....for the female with their year of birth and place, with the possible married name and living with the possible husband...will that narrow it down?

yes but could cost you a fortune. The better way would be to look for births post 1911 with each surname and area .the mmn was added to the records post 1911

Thanks Shirley..but I was thinking of doing the searches before looking at transcriptions..also, a birth might only give me a mother with the same name as the one I want...doesn't mean it's mine if I'm not sure of the marriage details!! If you follow my drift...

If you do it Shirley's way, using Freebmd, you may be able to narrow it down by using the location as a marker before starting on the searches.
