The Name Jack Please

I have a name Jack but believe it to be his nickname. I was thinking the proper name may be John. Has any one else got any idears please.

Jack is usually a diminutive of John but not necessarily.

(Having had my fingers burnt making such assumptions when looking for my mum's uncle Bob who turned out to be Harold. God only knows why he was called Bob. He didn't have Robert as a middle name)

I have just found the family on the 1911 census and all the children seem to have nicknames.

Hi I also have a Jack who is proving almost impossible to find.......he could well be a John, but is down as Jack on hiswedding his son's birth certificate and RAF papers but i still can't find him...good luck!!

Most Jacks are John.

My uncle was born Fred but had the nickname candy Bob.
My father was John. Seven generations of John.He got called Jack

Gets confusing doesn't it...my Grandad was called Harold but everyone called him John..no one else wa called Harold and my other granfather who is a 'Jack' apperas to have no other Johns in his family whatsoever!

I have friend called Tom. His surname is Tomlinson. His real name is Hubbert. His wife didnt find out till their wedding day
