My grandma, Mary, was always known as Polly.

However, she had a cousin called Polly who really was Polly - it says so on her birth cert.

Polly is normally Mary Ann but there are no rules for names :)

My gandmothers sister....... registered as Margaret 1869..... later known as mary by 1891 census and then Polly towards the end of her life......

somebody did suggest she could have been mary-ann, how odd, but that may be why I cannot find her birth cert, although she is polly on her marriage cert
