I should imagine the death certificate may refer to an inquest. If this is the case contact the coroner's office in the region indicated by the certificate. You will need to state our relationship to the deceased and explain that you wish to access information about the circumstances of his death.You would also need to send a copy of the death certificate - I think a photocopy would do but check first.

My sister and I were allowed to view our father's inquest file and paid for photocopy of it. We had to attend the coroner's office in person and sign various documents first.

Where did the suicide occur?

Was there a gap between the death and the inquest? The death certificate should give you the date of the inquest. This should then give you the relevant time period for it to have been reported in the local paper. I would have thought it was unlikely to have gone unreported. My Grandmother killed herself in 1957 in London and it was reported in the local paper the week of the inquest.

Have you already got the death cert? Sometimes there is reference on that to an inquest; though I would have thought you would have found some trace in local papers if that was the case.

Hi everyone.
Can any of you intellectuals out there shed any light on how I can find information on an Uncle who committed suicide on the 26th September 1946. I have tried newspapers from the area of the incident and also been to B/ham Central Library but without any success. Any help no matter how slight will obviously be much appreciated.
