Try contacting the Vale and Downland Museum in Wantage Berks. I was there a few weeks ago and they are so helpful.

Sorry about the spelllling mistake, have put that right now. The name is Crockford and as far as I have been told the death certificate says Hertfordshire but you may be right in that its Berkshire, I haven’t seen the certificate myself.

Are you sure it was Wantage Hertfordshire ?

There is a Wantage which was in Berkshire until 1974,now comes under Oxfordshire.

I think it will be Searchlight and not Scarchlight.

I have an uncle that during the war (1944) was posted to the WICK DOWN SEARCHLIGHT STATION WANTAGE HERTFORDSHIRE.

Does any one out there have dad’s uncles brothers that were posted to this site that could help me with an enquirer please?
