First thing would be toget grandads marriage certificate which should name a father and fathers occupation.

Tell us a bit about your grandfather...
About where and when was he born and what was his name?

I have found baptisms in local parish registers. for a travelling family.
That particular family seemed to move between here and a small town about 30 miles away, ...and then back again.
If you have any place of birth recorded for other family members, you might find other children baptised in the same parish.

Does anyone know what kind of records might be in existance for travelling families? There's an old family 'rumour' that my Great Grandmother was a 'gypsy' lady of some kind and as I can find no record of my Grandfather's birth or on the census I'm beginning to think it may be true. How do I go about tracing his roots?
