Would somebody with better eyes than I have, be kind enough to have a look and see if I am correct in reading the occupation of Samuel Smith as a Mineral Water Manufaturer! It just seems so unlikely - especially in London in those times!
It is probably something completely different :)
I can't find him or his son in 1901 to check against the handwriting!

I havent looked but it was a pretty common occupation.

Have looked now and yep, thats what he is doing, as was Sam Junior.

I've not looked at the image - but when I looked at a map of my current address for back in about 1900 - there was a mineral water factory at the end of the road - so I expect they were fairly common.

Maybe it was just a way of purifying the water generally to make it fit to drink - the water from the taps etc could have been a bit risky ...

Thankyou for checking that for me. I thought mineral water was a modern thing, but I suppose the Bath Spa was going strong well before then and maybe people thought it healthier! Can't imagine well or spring water was too safe in London at those times though!
