Hi, on the 1911 Census I have found Alfred Lamb aged 6, born in Acton, Middlesex, but I can't find a record of his birth. His father is Allen and his mother is Emily. Can anyone help please?.

Is this the family in 1901?

If so, they moved around a lot:
Hubert and Bernice reg'd Strood, Edmund in Greenwich and Winifred in Edmonton?

Yes, Ivy, that's the family except the surname is Lamb not Laurel. Alfred was 4 years younger than Bernice.

Yes, the image looks more like Lamb in 1901.

Acton seems to be Brentford reg district, but there do not appear to be any Alfred births there around 1905. However, the parents stated that Edmund was born in Surrey, but the matching reg'n for Edmund A is in Greenwich. I wonder if Alfred was also registered in a different district. Do you have any indication of a middle name for Alfred?

I believe it could have been Hubert.

Dennis Alfred Lamb registered the first quarter 1906 so could have been born 1905. Known by 2nd name perhaps - I have had that a lot with my own ancestors. Irene

Just double checked. He was definately Alfred Hubert.

Hmm, no Alfred Hubert on FreeBMD, and their coverage charts show practical completion for that period.

He might be mistranscribed in the national index - perhaps try the Brentford local district registry?

Yes, I'll do that. Thanks very much for your help anyway.

Do you know when he died as some deaths show dob depending when they died. Irene

Alternatively, there is an Alfred Walter H Lamb registered in Dartford, but a bit late - Mar q 1908

Hope someone else has some bright ideas - logging off - all the best
