Does anyone know generally what the age between generations is, I have a relative born 1914 but not sure age of father, any ideas gratefully received.

Thanks

Heather

Oh dear, well at a guess 25 but then people carried on producing kids into their 50s back then :)

Whats the details of the 1914 rellies birth certificate?

I usually reckon on twenty five years as a rough average, but saying that it obviously varies. My dad was 33 when I was born, my grandad was 48 when Dad was born, and my great-grandad was 31 when Grandad arrived.2
But I would try twenty five as an average - then you can look, say, 5 years either side.

My immediate ancestors seem to have had older parents for some reason - my mum's parents were 44 and 42 when she was born, but on the other hand it was a second marriage and my grandma's parents were 38 and 46 when she was born (but she was the youngest of eight).

If you can work out whether your relative had older siblings or not, that might give you a starting point for the marriage date of the parents, if you haven't got it already.

By 1914 the mother's name will also be recorded on the index.
You might be able to then find a marriage and also use the 1911 search facility to find a suitable match.

Thanks Heather Kate and Gwyn

I was thinking around the 20 mark but will use 25 as a rule of thumb!

They were married 4 sept 1940 Harry Adams was 26 and Mary Martin was 25 they lived in coventry and her dad is listed as Frank Martin Miner, no father listed for Harry, so was gonna try and track down her dad, but looks like its gonna be a lengthy process so will have to leave it to tomorrow when have more time.

Thanks again for your quick responses
