France is divided into 96 departments, so you need to know in which of these departments the birth would have been registered. Although records are being made available online, the 100 year privacy rule means that you do need to identify the location to get any further on a 1930s birth.

I have a birth that took place in Boma, France in 1818. Do you know how I'd go about finding the birth record/any details etc? Hope you dont mind me jumping in Bill!

In order to find bmd info from France, you need to know where that person was born, married or died. To apply for an 'Acte de naissance' (birth cert) for example, you need to apply to the Mairie (town hall) where that person was born. Just knowing the department is not enough. You need to know the town or village as well. In Paris you need to know which arrondissement.

If the event took place less than 100 years ago you have to prove your relationship with that person in order to receive an acte.
